More sad news I'm afraid. John Downing, one of the leading lights in the Swamplanders clan, passed away on April 8 2020. John became one of Fleet Street's leading photographers, was appointed an MBE in 1992 and granted Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Society of Photographers. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019. He is survived by his wife, the pianist Anita D'Attellis and son Bryn.

It is with sadness that we record that two of the leading Swamplanders are no longer with us.

Stan Allen died in St George's Hospital, Tooting, South London, on January 2nd 2014 - following a heart attack and a relapse some days after surgery.

Alan Willis died in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness on January 5th 2014. He had been admitted two weeks earlier to the Intensive Care Unit suffering from acute pneumonia.

The thoughts of the many who knew and enjoyed the company of these two remarkable men will undoubtedly be with their families.

When the 8th membership was still at the 42nd (Christ Church Brixton Road ) I was in the Scott patrol (actually PL). I still have the original Scott Patrol pennant!!!!If anyone would like this tattered memento I can send it.

A fantastic tribute to a remarkable band of brothers! I would like to pay a personal tribute to Stan and 'Skipper' Allen who took a shy lad of 10 and moulded him into a Queen's Scout with all the traditions of the Swamplanders ....and Skipper's soup for tea! :p
